Phelps Makes Waves in Golf

Posted by on in Sports

It seems retired swimmer Michael Phelps may have found a new sport.  The most decorated Olympian of all time recently made an awe-inspiring putt at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship held in Kingbarns, Scotland. Phelps sank a 153 foot putt on the course that took 17 seconds to drop in the hole.  To put that into perspective, that’s the longest putt ever recorded on television. Now that Phelps has proven he has potential to be ridiculously good at other sports, we can’t wait to see what hidden potential lies in today’s greatest golfers. Last month Rickie Fowler made news after jumping...

Is Lance Armstrong Just Another Doper?

Posted by on in Sports

In the 99 years since the first Tour de France, Lance Armstrong is the only cyclist to have won seven times, and consecutively at that. Because of his battle with cancer and his Lance Armstrong Foundation that made those yellow Livestrong bracelets a staple on the wrists of both the young and old, a little scandal doesn’t seem to be tarnishing Armstrong’s brand too badly. Last week he issued a statement that he is refusing to fight the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) charges, but even though the USADA has banned him from the sport for life, and stripped him of his medals, he’s...

With the Olympic Games over, a small town in Wales is hosting its own World Alternative Games as an ode to the Olympics having just been held in London. As its name suggests, the Alternative Games will be a medley of unusual events that you would never see at the traditional Games. Some of the events include Worm Charming, Wife Carrying Championships, Chariot Racing, Bathtubbing Championship, and some events that oddly enough are already yearly events: World Bog Snorkeling Championship, and what may just be our personal favourite, the Man vs. Horse Marathon. The BBC has the best video of a...

If you’ve played enough rounds, you’ve been here before. Your foursome tees off on a dogleg right. While you can't pinpoint exactly where you ended up, you do know that you’re in pretty much the same general spot as another guy in the group. After rounding the bend and catching site of the two adjacent golf balls in question, it quickly becomes apparent that you guys are in a bit of a pickle.      Player A: “Hey, what were you hitting?”  Player B: “Callaway Diablo” Player A: “Me too.  You happen to remember the number on it?” Player B: “Nope, guess...

It’s a moment Canadians will never forget. Paul Henderson skates down the left side of the ice and scores that winning goal. Thousands of Canadians watching at home stood up and cheered. Canada had won the series, but the game famously meant more than that. Democratic Canada had struck a blow to the Communist U.S.S.R. The 1972 Summit Series is remembered for these obvious political overtones as much as it is remembered for amazing hockey. The 2012 Russia-Canada Series is different in some ways, but similar in other ways. Russia is no longer Communist and The Cold War has been over...
